Message from your Vice Chairman, January 2016

Gordon Hayes - Vice Chairman

Gordon Hayes – Vice Chairman

As current 41 Club Vice-Chairman to Richard Grunwell’s chairmanship, and a relative newcomer, I would like to introduce myself as your next Chairman from April this year.

I am a previous member and chairman of Scarborough RT88, and joined 41 Club four or five years ago. I know some of you better than others, but I will endeavour to make myself known to everyone over the next year. I live in Scalby, I am married to Kate, and have three growing up/grown up children. By trade I am a GP, and a tutor at the medical school at York University. I enjoy most sports, particularly running and rugby – the latter watching from the sidelines only!

I have a few ideas for 41 Club which may or may not come to fruition, and which I will share more with you in due course, One idea I would like to put across now, however, is that I would like to see everyone who wants to be involved in the running of our club have the opportunity to do so – regardless of age or experience. I would actively welcome ideas and offers of input from anyone, including members who are new to 41 Club.

With this thought in mind, I am putting together a committee to serve from next April. Clearly a Vice-Chairman is needed, and I would be delighted to receive any expressions of interest. After several centuries in role, Simon Ward, our excellent Catering Officer, is seeking semi-retirement – and therefore I am also looking for anyone who would be prepared to job-share this role with Simon next year with a view to allowing him full retirement the year after. This could be more than one person – a Catering Team would certainly be an option to allow more members to be involved and to spread the workload. Please do get in touch with me if any of this appeals to you – your Club cannot function without you.

I am looking forward to being your Chairman next year – although it should be recognised and appreciated that the real work is done by committee officers behind the scenes – and to those people past, current and future I offer my sincere thanks and appreciation.

With best wishes

Gordon
