Chairman Simon’s Report on Scarborough 41 Club Charity Road Trip – July 2026

With money raised from both the Charter Night held in March and the Charity Box Immediate Past Chairman Richard and myself recently set off on a road trip to make the charitable donations previously approved by the membership.

The first stop was Saint Catherine’s Hospice where Richard and I were joined by Stuart armed with an impressive looking camera. The donation of £775 was duly handed to the Chief Executive of the Hospice, Ray Baird, who provided a warm welcome with an invitation for a full tour of the Hospice on a future date. Ray also mentioned that Flavours Bistro was available for hire for a future Club meeting with Flavours providing the catering.

Richard and I then headed for Wetherby to make the second donation of the day to Richard’s chosen charity during his year in office – Martin House Hospice for Children who received £1,106.

Richard insisted that he could find Martin House without the help of his Sat Nav and much to my surprise we actually arrived at our destination in good time for the presentation! After spending a few minutes preparing a large cheque Richard and I posed for our second photo opportunity of the day.

With our mission accomplished Richard and I returned to Scarborough having stopped in Malton on our return journey for a well-earned lunch. As we travelled home Richard and I congratulated ourselves on having set off for Wetherby in good time with the traffic on the A64 heading towards York having by now ground to a complete halt.

My thanks to Richard, Stuart and Treasurer Iain.

Hope you are all having a good summer.

Simon
