Report on attendance at rugby match between Scarborough v Wetherby at Silver Royd on 22 November 2025

In a marked improvement on last year there were 13 members of 41 Club and Farts in attendance together with 4 guests for the Regional 2 North East rugby match between Scarborough (sitting 3rd in the league) and Wetherby (sitting 4th) for what was expected to be a close game with both teams having won 5 and lost 3 games during the season.

Everyone gathered for a pre-lunch drink (or two) in the bar which was then followed by a 2 course meal together with a few more drinks and the chance to buy some raffle tickets and participate in the President’s poser (a chance to forecast the points difference between the teams at the end of the game with a prize of £100 for the winner).

Last season the match chosen by our Sports Officer Darren was played on a splendid sunny afternoon. This year in marked contrast the match only took place due the sterling efforts of the ground staff and numerous volunteers who removed a thick covering of snow from the Silver Royd pitch on the Friday with the work continuing well into the night. The piles of snow at the side of the pitch were indeed impressive.

The effort involved was not in vain with both the Scarborough and Wetherby teams playing what was in the first half a closely contested but entertaining game of rugby despite the conditions with the first half ending 14:7 in Scarborough’s favour.

Due to the cold everyone retired to the bar at half time some to get warm others to replenish their glasses.

In the second half Scarborough turned on the style and putting their recent run of poor results behind them easily pulled away from Wetherby scoring some excellent tries in the process with the final score a comfortable 33:7. A result which moved Scarborough into second place in the table.

Thanks to Darren for this excellent action shot of Scarborough scoring a try

There was just time to retire to the bar to discover that the winner of the President’s poser was our own Andy Moran!

Thanks to Darren for again organising the event which was enjoyed by all who attended despite the cold even the non-rugby fans.
