On the evening of 29 July 8 competitors drawn from 41 Club, Farts and RoundTable with 1 guest accepted the challenge laid down by Sports Officer Darren to compete for the prestige of being crowned the 2025 41 Club champion archer hosted as always by Scarborough Archers at their shooting ground in Osgodby.

Numbers were down on previous years which was disappointing for what is an entertaining evening. In part this was due to the absence of 3 regular competitors who had decided to test their levels of endurance by climbing Cross Fell instead of supporting Darren.
After a short practice session trying to hit the target the competition proper started with 5 rounds of target shooting and 5 animal targets in the woods.
At Darren’s request this year the targets were set at 18 yards instead of 12 yards as in previous years and the field targets in the woods were set further away at competition distance. The quiet satisfaction of the competitors having managed for the most part to hit the targets was somewhat undermined when a member of Scarborough Archers commented that their partially sighted members shoot from 30 yards!

All 8 competitors scored well but in a close finish third place went to Chris (a guest of Malcolm), second place to Mark from RoundTable and first place to Darren who vehemently denied having bribed the judges beforehand!
The evening finished with a curry at Scarborough Tandoori. Darren having decided not to rely on the Fox Hound in Flixton serving food after the experience of last year!
Next year Darren is looking to have the targets placed at the competition distance of 60 yards which should sort the real archers from the amateurs! So why not come along. No previous experience is required
