Scarborough 41 Club Meeting MINUTES – Thursday 21st May 2026 – Gianni’s Restaurant

Welcome by the Chairman – The Chairman welcomed members to Gianni’s and explained that it was one of the longest established family run restaurants in Scarborough which was quite some achievement. It was spread over 2 Victorian buildings which according to the internet were at one time a jail! (can this be true ? – Editor)

Guest/New Member – The meeting welcomed Paul Ratcliffe – guest of Chairman Simon. Despite attending 3 previous meetings, Paul was still keen to become a member and was promptly inducted and presented with a badge.

Paul explained that he had spent a number of years serving in the army and missed the camaraderie which 41 Club offered.

Meal – The meeting was another triumph for Catering Officer John White, with members able to select from a wide range of dishes. The Chairman commented on the large amount of garlic consumed and reassured members that: ‘There was no such thing as vampires – well – unless you Count Dracula.’ This hilarious comment met with a half-hearted response from the members – definitely a tough crowd!

70th Anniversary Dinner – The chairman announced that the charity raffle and auction had raised £1,275 in total, and proposed that the money be divided into:

    • £500 for Andys Man Club – which supports mental health issues in men; and
    • £775 for St Catherine’s Hospice

The proposed donations and division of the money raised was unanimously approved by the members and the Chairman agreed to arrange for the relevant donations to be made.

Charity Night – 6 March 2027 – With the Cloughton Rat Pack unable to perform on the original date of the Charity Night on 22 August a new date of Saturday 6 March 2027 has been arranged together with a change of venue to the Cloughton & Burniston Parish Hall which holds about 150 guests whilst still leaving some room for dancing – further details to follow.

Privacy Statement – A Privacy Statement has been posted on the Club website. This highlights what type of data the Club holds about members and how that data is processed e.g. name & address, email address, phone numbers, and partner’s name where applicable.

To view the Privacy Statement members should click on the ‘About’ tab at the top of the Home Page.

If any member has any concerns or questions about data protection they should contact the Secretary in the first instance.
