Tapas Evening or AGM Re-visited?

For those members who had a thirst to quench the 41 Club May meeting kicked off with pre-dinner drinks in the Merchant.

Members then gathered at the La Roca Tapas bar including soon to be Immediate Past Chairman Dom who had missed the first part of the AGM having decided to take an early bath instead! But had he found the missing Chairman’s chain of office and xylophone during the intervening period since the AGM? First appearances suggested not.

In the continued absence of the Chairman’s regalia Dom was kindly provided with a substitute chain of office leaving him suitably flushed!

Fortunately for Dom the proprietor of La Roca came to his rescue presenting him with a “lost parcel” which on opening was miraculously found to contain not only the lost Chairman’s chain of office but the xylophone as well!  Had Dom really misplaced the regalia or had some dastardly 41 Club member stolen it? Inspector Knacker is understood to be on the case.

With the Chairman’s regalia restored Dom was able to bring the AGM to a successful conclusion by handing over the chain of office to incoming Chairman Richard who in turn presented Dom with his Past Chairman’s jewel.

Don’t lose it!

In his address as the new 41 Club Chairman Richard spoke about his plans for the year to come including 2 very important events: the Charity Night featuring the Cloughton Rat Pack to take place at the Spa on the 18th October 2025 and the Club’s 70th Charter Night on the 21st March 2026 at the Scarborough Rugby Club. Richard pointed out that both were big events taking place within one year and would need all members of 41 Club to be involved in their organisation.

Reports were invited from those officers present with only the Club’s Sports Officer, Darren Kellett responding to the invitation to give members advance notice of National’s Golf Weekend to be held on the 28th/29th September at Daventry.

It was disclosed during the meeting that Secretary Mike was once again in hospital which prompted the members to raise a glass and wish him a speedy recovery.

The anticipated excellent tapas meal followed which as always was much enjoyed by everyone. With the wide variety of dishes served there was something for everyone’s taste. Some members clearly had had too much beer and not enough tapas!

Yet another great night of fellowship for 41 Club members was brought to an end with the usual toast to RTIB.

Will new Chairman Richard take as much care of the Chairman’s chain of office and xylophone as the Past Chairman? Only time will tell.
