Report on 70th Anniversary Celebration held on 21 March 2026

Congratulations to Vice Chairman Simon and the members of his committee for their sterling efforts in making the celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the affiliation of the Club to the National Association of 41 Clubs on 15 March 1956 such a success.

The celebration of the 70th anniversary took place at Scarborough Rugby Club on Saturday 21 March 2026. Over 100 members past and present and guests joined Chairman Richard with his family in support for what was no doubt the highlight of his year in office.

The guest of honour was the National President Jason Thomson a mere youth at only 54 who had travelled all the way from a 50th anniversary celebration of a 41 Club in Cornwall the previous evening to be present at the Rugby Club.

The formal part of the evening started with a welcome from Chairman Richard to the guests present many by name. Members and guests then enjoyed an excellent 3 course meal. The formal part of the evening concluded with a few words from Chairman Richard and the guest of honour Jason who spoke movingly about his chosen charity Andy’s Man Club and its good work in encouraging men “to talk”.

The after dinner entertainment and an opportunity for members and guests to practice their moves on the dance floor was provided by Soul Rida a Scarborough based 8-piece soul band whose performance over two sessions during the evening enhanced their already excellent reputation.

With a raffle ably conducted by Chairman Richard who clearly missed out on his true vocation as an auctioneer and raffle raising £1,285 according to the provisional figures provided by Vice Chairman Simon the evening was a great success.

The proceeds of the evening will be divided between the National Chairman’s chosen charity Andy’s Man Club and Chairman Richard’s chosen charity St Catherine’s Hospice.

Vice Chairman Simon and Elaine

This report would be incomplete without another reference to Vice Chairman Simon whose attention to detail and role as master of ceremonies ensured that the evening was such a success. A word of advice to Simon: never give up the day job to become a stand up comedian!
