Date: Thursday, 12 December 2019
Venue: AZ Restaurant, 89 Columbus Ravine, Scarborough, YO12 7QU
For members who haven’t yet been to this little gem of a Turkish restaurant in Scarborough, you are in for an absolute treat. Forget Zorba the Greek and think of Abdul the Turk (but very similar dishes!).
We eat at 7.30pm and have the restaurant to ourselves.
The Meal:
Starter: Meze, a mix of 9 hot and cold dishes which include lightly-grilled hellim (read haloumi) cheese, sucuk (lightly-spiced beef pepperoni, grilled and served with salad) and other treats to whet your appetites.
Main course: Incik, described by our Patron as a large knuckle of lamb on the bone, slow cooked with onions, peppers, carrots, beans and celery served on a bed of mashed potato.
If anyone doesn’t want the lamb shank there are two alternative mains:
a. Tavuk Sultan: finely-diced chicken breast, honey, pine nuts, almonds, currants and apricots served with bulgar wheat.
or
b. Baked Salmon: oven-baked salmon marinaded in white wine, lemon juice, garlic, dill, coriander and butter served on a bed of spinach with salad and roast potato.
Important: everyone will get lamb shank as the main unless they contact John White to choose an (a) or (b) alternative. Please book your alternative main by 12 noon on Friday, 5 December 2019.
Wine: as well as the usual array of continental wines, our Patron also has some fine Turkish wines on offer which your Catering Team can confirm are very good! All drink to be paid for separately.
Apologies: to made in the usual way here on the Club website by 12 noon on Friday, 6 December 2019.
