Archery Night

Many thanks to all who attended the joint 41club and farts archery evening  Thursday July 27th .  It was a close competition this year but the winner again for the second year running with a magnificent score of 320 out of 414  was reigning champion Malcolm Smith. Great shooting Malcolm and  a big congratulations to you  from us all.

The evening was well attended and luckily the weather stayed warm and dry followed by a few beers and a nice meal at Byways.

A special thanks to  Scarborough archers for their patience, guidance and for helping us find the stray arrows

John Naylor (scarborough archers secretary) says they are actively looking for new members and everyone is welcome to join them for a practice.

I will post some pictures of the event onto the website  as soon as I receive them.

Darren

The next sports event will be a joint meeting with FARTS at Scarborough Archers, Osgodby Lane Scarborough on Thursday 27th July.

Start 6.30  followed by the opportunity to have a meal at the Poachers Barn for those who want to eat, unfortunately they no longer do the BOGOF offer, now it’s just a free drink with the meal.

Anyone interested please let Darren Kellet know no later than Friday 21st July indicating whether you want to eat. Also let me know if you are left handed as apparently you need a special bow.

September 2016 meeting report

An Evening with Robin Hood and his Motley Men or Forty-Oners get their Chips !

A guest archer shows how it is done.

A guest archer shows how it is done.

The September evening took the form of a taste of Archery with Scarborough Archery based at Osgodby, with a good number of 41 club members taking the opportunity to squeeze into their Lincoln Green tights and mince around a field at Osgodby giving rise to shocked looks from the locals. After endangering more than one life with excitable firing Simon Lockley took first place for maximum points achieved without killing any person or animal. Our esteemed Secretary who had won the 2015 event left early in disgust to comfort himself with a plate of fish & chips.

Following the archery experience the 41clubers met at Walkers Fish Restaurant for a fish supper up to the excellent standard you can always expect at Walkers.

Following the meal Avis Turner director of Basics Plus gave members an overview of the good works of the Basics Plus charity in enabling those with learning difficulties to gain supported experience of work and make the most of their potential. Chairman Gordon reminded members present that Basics Plus was Scarborough 41 Club’s chosen charity for 2016 and that the Club’s November meeting would take the form of a fun Casino evening to take place at the Crown Spa Hotel aiming to raise money for the charity. Members’ attendance at the event would be covered by their monthly direct debit.

The business element of the evening took the form of the induction of Charles Hindle as a welcome new member of the Club.

Meeting report: archery evening

On the Seamer Greensward…

Our thanks to Chairman, David, for arranging for 17 intrepid 41 Club members to be hosted by Scarborough Archers at Seamer Sports ground on Thursday 25 September 2014.

Several members of the Archers explained and demonstrated to us the rudiments of archery, so that our ensuing efforts did not result in any mortal injuries, nor even the loss of any fingers. We had a very enjoyable evening. Most of us managed to hit the targets; some of us even managed a bullseye and John Priestley succeeded in bursting a couple of balloons. Richard Frank shot well with a longbow which defeated most of us.

As darkness fell our band of merry men decamped to ye olde Seamer Social Club for some ale and then dined on an excellent fish and chip supper at Walkers Restaurant in East Ayton. After the meal we were entertained by Roger Greaves of Scarborough Archers who regaled us with the history of archery and of the Scarborough club. Chairman David, himself a member of Scarborough Archers, gave the vote of thanks.

Davidthen convened a brief informal meeting to announce that Ed Nelsey had left Scarborough, following the death of his wife, to live in Dorset near his sons. David had sent a suitable letter of good wishes to Ed on behalf of the Club.

Simon Ward gave the details of the next 2 meetings.

Regards

Peter Harriott
